Hot on the heels of the games announcement at Konami’s Metal Gear 25th anniversary event, Hideo Kojima took to the stage of PAX to reveal the game to the west too.

Check out the mind-blowing trailer below!

The trailer certainly doesn’t hold back either. Clocking in at almost 14 minutes in length the trailer shows a currently unknown enemy (who could always be someone from the other entries in the franchise) heading through a military camp. Along his way he stops by a small cell, with a young Chico (from MGS: Peace Walker) trapped inside, this of course hints about the timeline.

Later in the trailer comes the reveal of Snake. But not Solid Snake, for this game we will be playing as Naked Snake again, aka Big Boss, who also appears to be quite old for those who may remember him from MGS 3: Snake Eater. This is actually a bit of a contrast from the screenshot released a few days ago, where Big Boss appears to be closer to his age in MGS 3: Snake Eater, so perhaps the game could involve multiple points in the timeline, also explaining the plural ‘Ground Zeroes‘.

As for the technological aspect, the Fox Engine certainly can deliver. Aside from the fact the game is open world and includes controllable vehicles, the game looks stunning. From the textures and animations right the way through to the lighting effects, everything has been upgraded hugely. The game does appear to be utilizing some DirectX11 effects in its current state, so perhaps some of the features could be stripped back on the console release. Hideo Kojima however, is happy to state that the game will look very close to what we have seen on consoles, and Hideo isn’t one to lie to peoples faces about such things so I would personally be inclined to believe him.

One thing I would like to clarify, in my previous article I mentioned that the tech being used means it will likely be headed to the next generation. However, the game is actually releasing for the Playtation 3 and Xbox 360 instead, so look forward to seeing Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes head to your console of choice hopefully in the coming year.
