The Simpsons parodies Minecraft in yesterdays couch gag

The Simpsons, one of the greatest cartoons of all time parodied Minecraft in last nights episode. Everyone knows that the opening credits always features a different gag when the family sits on the couch to watch TV. Last night gamers were amused to see that the opening parodied the popular game Minecraft.

It seems Minecraft creator Markuss Persson wasn’t aware the show was planning this opening as he posted a Tweet saying: “”I’m not sure how I feel about it, I STILL feel a bit like it’s just this small game I made at home. It’s so weird to have all these things happen.”

Minecraft has sold over 12 million copies on the Xbox 360

Microsoft has announced that Minecraft has sold over 12 million copies on the Xbox 360 and that it is one of the best selling 360 games ever. This is close to the 14.3 million the game has sold on PC, its original release platform.

“It is pretty amazing! I remember when we started talking about sales numbers that we would be super happy to sell 1 million copies,” said Mojang’s Daniel Kaplan

Minecraft on PS3 gets new skins and updates

PS3 Minecraft players will be receiving a new update which will add some Sony themed character skins, as well as some small revisions and additions to the game.

From today, two new skin packs will be available to download. The first is based on Sony game characters and include skins of Nathan Drake from Uncharted, the four protagonists from Heavy Rain, some characters from Killzone and some from Sly Cooper. The second pack, called Battle of the Beasts, includes koalas, cavemen, an octopus, and Cleopatra.

Minecraft Digs Its Way Out of Oculus Rift Because Notch Doesn’t Trust Facebook

Mojang and Minecraft top honcho Notch, aka Markus Persson, has announced that they are pulling out of plans of releasing the game to Oculus Rift, following news that Facebook is set to acquire them. In a word, Markus does not trust Facebook.

Flappy Bird Fan Creates A Minecraft Version

Unless you live under a rock, you will no doubt have at least heard about Flappy Bird, the new free to play game all your friends play when they’re on the toilet. The game has been downloaded by millions of people across the world and is up there with the likes of Candy Crush and Angry Birds.

The talented folks at CodeCrafted have taken the concept and recreated it in the world of Minecraft. Not only do you navigate your way through pipes but you are even able to choose a difficulty level which is generated by random stages. It’s unlikely that this version will take off (no pun intended) like the original but you should still check it out.

Minecraft Passes The 5 Million Mark

4J Studios, one of the developers that work on Minecraft have revealed via Twitter that the game has now sold more than 5 million copies, which is quit an astounding achievement for any game, let alone an indie game. The milestone was passed quite fittingly on New Years Eve, so I can imagine the developers had even more reason to celelbrate.
